Shovhog signs off at Rockhampton

Friday, 9 November 2012

Shovhog signed off with a winner from his last crop when Hayyler’s Hog scored an on-pace victory in the XXXX Bitter QTIS 2YO Hcp (1050m) at Rockhampton on Thursday.

Hayyler’s Hog (2f Shovhog – Rippling Tide by Crested Wave) won by three-quarters of a lengths and then had to survive a protest from odds-on favourite Curlew (Hussonet).  Her stablemate Hayyler’s Devil (Bullmore) was two lengths away in third place on debut.

Shovhog (Danehill) died at Raheen Stud in November 2009 and there are just three foals from his final crop.  “She’s a lovely filly and wants to do everything right,” trainer Mark Barnham said.  “I will start her in another QTIS race back here in a fortnight before a break.”

Barnham prepares Hayyler’s Hog for owner Royce Woods and she was a $5,000 buy at the 2012 Magic Millions QTIS yearling sale.  Connections banked $15,000 in prizemoney and bonuses on Thursday.  “She’s still got a lot to learn,” Barnham added.  “But we’re on the right track and I would love to take her down to Brisbane in the New Year.”

Hayyler’s Hog was bred by Bill Kajewski and is a half-sister to Miss Innocence (Mr Innocent) who was runner-up to Sea Zulu in the 2005 Great Northern 2YO Plate at Townsville.

Shovhog has sired 208 winners at a 65% strike-rate and his top-class Raheen bred sprinter Adebisi will begin a summer campaign in the Salt Design Hcp at Eagle Farm on Saturday.  He is being set for the G3 George Moore Stakes (1200m) on December 8.
