Raheen Tiger targets LR Bunbury Stakes

Tuesday, 22 January 2013

Raheen Stud graduate Tiger Pete (pictured) is heading for black-type company after completing a winning hat-trick in the Perth Racing Sprint (1100m) at Ascot on Saturday.

Tiger Pete (4g Shovhog – Bligh Bounty by Forging Ahead) has won 7 races in 12 starts and earned over $191,000 since Raheen sold him for just $19,000 at the 2010 Gold Coast Magic Millions.  “This horse is going places,” stable foreman Brett Wolfe said.  “He’s probably put on 40kgs since his last prep and is a big, strong horse now.”

The Shovhog gelding will be set for the $100,000 LR Bunbury Stakes (1400m) on March 10.  He started a $2.45 favourite at Ascot and, despite being caught wide, gunned down the leaders with a sharp turn of foot to score by over a length.

Tiger Pete’s dam Bligh Bounty died when struck by lightning in October 2011, however, Raheen studmaster Basil Nolan still has several mares from her immediate family at his Warwick farm.

Bligh Bounty’s half-sister Tarmons has a Dreamscape filly (Lot 257) entered as part of Raheen’s large draft at the Gold Coast QTIS Sale.  Top-class sprinter Hard To Catch is another close relation.  He won 13 races up to G3 level in Brisbane and was also runner-up in the 2008 G1 Stradbroke Hcp when beaten a half-head by Mr Baritone.

There are 39 yearlings in Raheen’s consignment for the QTIS Sale including 19 lots by its resident sire Publishing.  The QTIS Sale is scheduled for March 17 and 18.
