Raheen enters 31 yearlings for Gold Coast Sale

Tuesday, 24 February 2015

Raheen Stud has 31 yearlings catalogued for the Magic Millions QTIS Sale and its draft includes 18 lots from the penultimate crop of Captain Sonador.

The Group 1 winning son of champion sire Shamardal opened his account with Capitanear at the Gold Coast on February 14 and there’s more for the black-book in the lead-up to the Magic Millions Sale on March 16 and 17.

Exciting galloper I’m Belucci looked an early winner for Desleigh Forster when he flew home on debut at Doomben.  Liam Birchley is another trainer with a smart Captain Sonador – his filly Sailor Gerri just missed some black-type when fourth in the LR Calaway Gal stakes won by Flamenco.

“Getting his first winner in February is a bonus,” Raheen studmaster Basil Nolan jnr said.  “There have been 11 starters by Captain Sonador so far and 6 of them have been in the money.  They hit the line hard – just like their father – and they’re screaming out for more ground.”

Nolan is putting the finishing touches to Raheen’s QTIS Sale consignment and he has big wraps on several of the Captain Sonador yearlings.  “The colt out of She Can Command (Lot 14) is outstanding.  He’s the first foal of an Eagle Farm winner and is a big, strapping chestnut.”

The sister to I’m Belucci will continue to increase in value prior to the Sale.  “She’s from Sovereign Road (Lot 35) and is a lovely, athletic individual.  She’s right up there among our best going down to the Gold Coast.”

Nolan also highlighted the Captain Sonadors from Forbidden Fruit (Lot 216) and Hepburn Rose (Lot 245).  “The Forbidden Fruit colt is a forward type and represents the Shamardal – More Than Ready cross.  He should show up as a two year-old.

“The Hepburn Rose colt is a half-brother to Noisy Ocean.  He’s big and strong which is typical of the Captain Sonadors.”

Raheen Stud has a tremendous strike-rate at the QTIS Sale with recent graduates the calibre of Magic Millions 3YO Guineas winner Punch On.  She cost just $16,000 and earned over $846,000.

Rocket To Glory is another Raheen star that turned a bargain QTIS Sale price-tag ($20,000) into 12 wins and a bank account of $687,000.

Raheen has also catalogued yearlings by Bradbury’s Luck, Casino Prince, Monaco Consul, Nicconi, Publishing, Real Saga, Rothesay, Show A Heart and Snippetson for the QTIS Sale.
