QTIS graduate a First for Publishing

Saturday, 5 January 2013

Raheen Stud stallion Publishing was represented by his first winner on Saturday.  His filly First Release scored an on-pace victory in the 100% Gold Coast Maiden Plate (900m).

First Release (2f Publishing – Lauren’s Charm by Knowledge) was part of Raheen’s draft just across the road at the 2012 Gold Coast QTIS Sale.  She had finished midfield on debut at Sunshine Coast but was ready to strike second time out when the even-money favourite Puff’s Girl (Hidden Dragon) faded in the straight.

“She’s a nice filly and that was an excellent run,” trainer Bruce Hill said at the Gold Coast.  “I thought she could win at the Sunny Coast just before Xmas.  She drew the rails and was in the gates for ages while they loaded the rest of the field.

“She lost concentration and missed the start but ran on late.  Her work kept improving and I was confident she could break through today.”

Hill prepares First Release for Mark Robertson and Mitch Edwards.  “I liked the look of the filly at the QTIS Sale and bought her on spec. for $10,000,” he recalled.  “Mark was standing next to me and asked who I was bidding for.  ‘Come up with the money and she’s all yours,’ I said.”

First Release will improve over longer trips than 900 metres according to her trainer.  “We will have a look around for a suitable race after the Magic Millions carnival,” Hill said.  “I won’t be afraid to take her to town.”

Publishing (Testa Rossa) stands for a $4,400 (inc gst) service fee at Raheen Stud.  He was raced by Lloyd Williams and was a Group 3 winner of the Standish Hcp (1200m) at Flemington and Carlyon Cup (1400m) at Caulfield.

Publishing’s pedigree is peppered with speed carrying a double cross of Vain as well as being from the same family as Rancher.  Raheen has catalogued the majority of Publishing’s second crop for the 2013 QTIS Sale on March 17 & 18.

Raheen’s Sebring colt will launch this week’s Magic Millions Sale as Lot 1 on Wednesday.  Widden Stud’s boom sire got him from La Goulue who is a black-type half-sister to Group 1 winners Gimmethegreenlight (South African Queen’s Plate) and Ofcourseican (Coolmore Classic).
