Glory days at Gold Coast

Sunday, 15 March 2015

Brilliant Raheen Stud bred sprinter Rocket to Glory sent his earnings past $750,000 with a gutsy, front-running victory in the Carbine Club Stakes (1200m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

He was a $20,000 graduate from Raheen’s draft at the 2010 Magic Millions QTIS Sale and his 13th victory was perfectly timed – coming just a couple of days before the 2015 QTIS Sale.

Rocket to Glory (Shovhog) defied a backmarker bias to clock a quick 68.63s for 1200m.  “I made a mistake last campaign when I tried to get him out to 1400 metres,” Gollan said.  “I won’t be making him go further than 1200 metres in future.

“Whether it was the head wind in the back straight or not – the leaders were stopping on Saturday but they are not as fast as this horse.  I would love him to win a good race in the winter but we set him for this race and I will let him get over it before making future plans.”

Raheen Stud has 31 lots catalogued for the two-day QTIS Sale starting on Monday including 18 yearlings by ill-fated stallion Captain Sonador.

The Group 1 winning son of Shamardal sired his third winner when Sonador’s Princess was successful on debut in the Griffin Builders Hcp (1100m) at Rockhampton on Saturday.

Sonador’s Princess (2f Captain Sonador – Princess Kimono by Charge Forward) is based at Toowoomba with trainer Shane Iverson and was a runaway trial winner at Clifford Park on March 3.  She is a direct descendant of champion mare Emancipation.
