All Coin another money-spinner for Shovhog

Saturday, 2 July 2011

Shovhog kept his strike-rate soaring when All Coin was a resolute maiden winner at Ipswich on Friday.

The former Raheen Stud sire died in November 2009 and the numbers are thinning out.  He has sired 194 winners of 589 races at a sensational 65% strike-rate.

All Coin tailed Monashee Success until the corner in the Savige Pest Control Maiden Hcp (1350m) and they settled down to a bruising battle in the straight.  The Shovhog gelding got the better of the leader and then held off late challenges from Williams Agenda (Private Agenda ) and Gold Demon (High Rolling).

All Coin (3g Shovhog – Special Package by Secret Savings) endured a stop-start career as a two and three year-old.  He was racing first-up after a 17 week break on Friday and trainer Peter Balzen will try and build some momentum this prep.

All Coin is one of 14 winners from Shovhog’s current crop of three year-olds.  That group is headed by LR Gold Edition Plate winner Adebisi.

His outgoing two year-olds include North Queensland flyer Rocket To Glory and Brisbane stakes performer Noisy Ocean.  They are set for a showdown in the $250,000 QTIS 600 Plate at Eagle Farm next Saturday.

Shovhog’s penultimate crop are rising two year-olds for 2011-12 but there are no more than 17 of them.  And his final crop numbered just 5 foals last year.

Balzen bought All Coin from the Raheen consignment for $20,000 at the 2009 Magic Millions Select yearling sale.  His yearling half-brother by Vinery sire Excites was part of Raheen’s draft at this year’s sale and made $40,000 to the bid of Paul Rocke.

Their dam Special Package won races at Wangaratta and Geelong in 2005 and was stakes placed in the Listed SAJC Oaklands Plate at Cheltenham Park that year.

Raheen’s Nolan family also have her weanling colt by Excites and bred the mare back to the Vinery sire last year.
